Bombshellism, Bombshelliness, Bombshellaciousness

The Bombshell Manual of Style: witty, fun, educational ;) and all round amazing. I received this book in the mail form amazon about a week ago, and I finished it the next day. Yes, I found it THAT good. But what I also enjoyed was that it covers practically everything from style and beauty to how a bombshell keeps her fridge (like a vanity on ice, in case you were wondering. It has everything BUT food). After reading it, I definitely felt like acting up my inner bombshell, and really enjoyed doing so. But, it also gives some good tips for every day things that aren't too extreme. A great book to keep on your nightstand, for some nightly inspiration.
Since I checked out many reviews before I bought it, I realized many people didn't like some of the contradictory statements in the book. But I disagree. They said from the very beginning that a bombshell is a multitude of contradictions that make her who she is.  So having read it like five times over, i definitely believe you should buy it. And read it. Over and over again. Forever. :)

Nautical Flowers

Nautical flowers, if such a thing exists, is probably the best way to describe my outfit today. All week I've been feeling very tired of pants, since I wear jeans practically all the time, so i figured even though it was 40º outside, I'd pretend it was spring. :)

So, since you cant really see my amazingly amazing shoes (for um 30 bucks. We're talking Nine West here, TJMaxx of course) So I figured I'd take a closer picture. As you can see I haven't even taken off the size 8 sticker, even though I've worn it around, but I just can't bring myself to do it, god knows why.

 

 And of course, a closer look at my gorgeous purse, stolen from my mother ages ago, by Bvlgari. It was given to "us" (her) by our Italian friend, who has a shopaholic friend who ends up giving him a bunch of her left over purses and other things for him to gift to whoever.  I absolutely love it since it's so classic and I can add any silk scarf to it. Very Hermes... but smaller, and Bvlgari ;)

Always In Our Hearts

Three days ago, we lost one of the most beautiful, and possibly the last, of the greats of the silver screen. Elizabeth Taylor was, and in all our hearts still is, an inspiration and testimony on how they don't make them like they used to. She died on May 23, early in the morning, of congestive heart failure at the age of 79. It's sad to think that throughout my lifetime, most of these stars have already died, or will soon. But their memory will forever be preserved in their accomplishments and, anmely, movies and photographs.

Born Elizabeth Rosemond Taylor on February 27, 1932(1932-02-27) Hampstead Garden Suburb, London, she went on to become a child star in movies such as Lassie Come Home. Most known for her violet eyes and unique beauty, throughout her life she had many husbands and fun stories to go along with them :) She won two academy awards for her performances in BUtterfield 8 in 1960, and for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? in 1966), as well as the title Dame, from Queen Elizabeth II. She also devoted a good part of her life to helping those in the fight with AIDS. A true Hollywood legend.

It also seems that Elizabeth had a twitter! One of her last tweets, from July, saying: "You are who you are. All you can do in this world is help others to be who they are and better themselves and those around them." And that she did. We will forever miss you Dame Elizabeth.

"Just a few inches... NO! Not that much!"

If you see the title of my post, it pretty much describes my visit to the hairstylists. It seems I have issues lopping off too much hair ;) But, since I'm getting a haircut on thursday (which is useful considering it is the opening night of my show- Grease, I play Marty-, so I won't have to do any styling that night), I figured I'd find exactly what I wanted and what would make my life easier, so I went for the 1940s haircut.

I'll probably give the first one (instead of the second) to my stylist since I have a lot of split ends and probably can't afford to have it stay on. But besides the potential disaster, I'm really excited! It's probably a good thing I talked myself out of cutting my own hair this afternoon...

Dear Jane

Just today, which is sad because I really should've known sooner, I found out that the legendary Jane Russel died on February 28th of this year. Born Ernestine Jane Geraldine Russell in Bemidji, Minnesota, she became one of the most iconic silver screen stars, and was most famous for movies such as Howard Hughes's "The Outlaw", and of course "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes". She died of a respiratory illness in her home i believe, in Santa Maria (California).
This news today really shocked me because of two reasons: 1. She died the day after the 83rd Academy Awards...  What a fitting, and ironic, ending for such an actress. It makes me wonder if she was watching it the night before... and 2. The last time I was watching her movies and videos (yes, i do mean i watch these things on youtube :P) I can remember thinking how wonderful it was that such a gorgeous, legendary and amazing actress/person was still alive in my time. Because most of these actresses and people of hollywood's golden age have all died, and the fact that she was alive and admirable... it just made me sad to see such a wonderful person go. Like Michael Jackson all over again :P
RIP Jane Russell, you will be dearly missed.

Paris (fashion)

I just found this gem of a video on youtube, and I had to make a post of it. I've currently really been wanting to watch Funny Face, so watching some random youtube clips, this came up in one of the youtube video responses, and I decided to check it out. Turns out, It is a beautiful montage of the couture of the 50s and 60s, with some nice clips of funny face in between. I kind of love it :)

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about the trip to Paris I'm taking in June, and this photo really got me in the mood to go :) and it just captured for me one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

It shows the street right after the rain, and with the use of light and dark in this painting, the quiet stillness of the moment in time is captured beautifully.
 And of course, my little homage to Paris wouldn't be complete without "Bonjour, Paris!" from Funny Face:
